Microsoft seems to still do not understand that they should be ahead of standards instead of lagging behind it.The word recently gone out that Outlook 2010 will use Microsoft Word engine for HTML rendering (insert someone having a heart attack here).
This means you can pretty much forgot coding emails without tables or use CSS for another 5 years. This is very bad news for every front-end developers out there, but hey it’s a good news for every secretary out there, anyway this is what Microsoft is trying to tell the world. While I understand why Microsoft wants to keep accessible table HTML design for every non-developer out there, could they have implemented a second mode with the “Email Standards Project”? Yes, they could have, but they decided to just wait and be behind everyone else on standards as always.
Go to fixoutlook.org for all the story and spread the word on Twitter!

I’m confused, at your mission? Why fix Outlook for Microsoft? That is their job, it is why people pay them. How about we create something better, and then just sit back and watch the EU sue them for bundling Outlook.. They can play dirty, so can we.
I remember when outlook used to be the leading scheduling application. Now, I wouldn’t know what to do without rss/iCal calendars. Outlook is losing its edge, don’t help them sustain it, just relax.
@Evan well it’s not that easy, big corporations are still using outlook in a major way , clients use outlook. When you launch a email campaign it is not an option to tossed it up. We have to live with it.
Advocating another email client is certainly a good idea, but here they are fighting for better compliance against a major player in the industry.
outlook has been using the word html rendering engine since office 2007 – so this campaign is a bit late, the problem already exists now – i don’t really get this new campaign because the damage is already done
I love the site idea fixoutlook.org , do you hace the script ? bratz.usa (at} gmail.com
